Bowles Building Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
In partnership with the Omni CRA, we undertook critical repairs for a 6-unit building in Overtown,
including a new roof, electrical, plumbing, flooring, windows and doors, and all of the individual units
were repaired based on the unique needs of each resident.
Built by the current owner’s uncle in 1954, this building has been in his family ever since. The one-and
two-bedroom units were rented to community members at rates significantly below market value and
despite numerous offers from developers, he remained determined to keep the building in his family,
continuing to provide affordable housing to legacy residents. He has even announced, that he will be
passing ownership of the building down to his son, Dr. Shawn Bullard.
Due to the building's age and wear and tear, repairs became necessary, especially after roof leaks
started. With funding from the Omni CRA, several extensive repairs were made to ensure a healthy
living environment for renters. The owner has also signed a contract to maintain these units as
affordable rentals for legacy and new low-income families.
